Martin Scorsese is a film legend. But when Apple TV+ launched his latest feature film Killers of the Flower Moon, they had a problem: younger viewers didn’t know who Marty was, much less were interested in watching his latest 3+ hour epic.

To solve that challenge, we decided to take Marty someplace he’d never been before: social media.

We brought Marty to Letterboxd, the social network for cinephiles, creating personalized content, lists and film influences for his fans. It was a smashing success. Overnight Marty gained 350,000 followers, instantly becoming the most followed person on Letterboxd. His content and interactions with fans created online buzz that spilled over onto TikTok, Instagram and in the media — and when Killers opened in theaters, a whopping 44% of theatergoers were under age 30.
